Will and Judy at last year's Providence Farms ribbon cutting ceremony.
Providence Farms is the work of Will and Judy Matheny. Both have a great amount of cooking experience. Judy has cooked dinners and receptions for groups of up to 1,000 people; her menus are known for having fresh ingredients and flavorful seasonings. Will has a reputation among his friends as a wonderful down-home and gourmet cook. His friends assumed that Judy was marrying him to have his biscuits and chicken and dumplings on a regular basis!
For over 25 years, Judy has lived in their Spencer Creek home. When she moved in, Spencer Creek was a gravel road. (The ugly farm hedge was originally left in front of the house to keep the dust from the road out of the house! Now it is the separation between city life and our little piece of country.)
What is now Fieldstone Farms across the street was then a working farm run by an elderly couple who lived in an old log house. They had cows with cowbells, lots of chickens, and a tobacco barn that our kids loved to explore. We heard bullfrogs in the pond and the children played in the creek.

Oh my! ... you just gotta taste Miss Judy's deserts!
Will became part of the family a few years after Judy had been widowed. Having never been married, he bravely took on a crazy household that included four children still at home--and three of them were teenagers!
Over the years, the house and land has been taking on some of the look and feel of Will’s family farm in West Virginia.
